Lahore: Motorbike rider arrested for sexually harassing student after diverting route

A motorbike rider in Lahore has been booked for sexually harassing a matriculation student in the Guberg area, Express News reported. According to the Station House Officer (SHO) Gulberg, the accused was arrested from Noor Jehan Road using geolocation technology. The action was taken when the case was brought to the attention of the Deputy Inspector General(DIG) Operations. Superintendent of Police (SP) Sherbano Naqvi formed a team to arrest the culprit.

The accused was a rider with InDrive, where the victim had booked a motorbike ride with the accused. She had made a booking from Johar Town for a private housing society in Lahore. The ride was misled to Gulberg’s Ali Zaib Road under false pretences, where the incident took place. The girl was sexually harassed on the deserted road near a park, Assistant Superintendent of Police(ASP) confirmed.

The suspect has been identified as Shoaib, and he has been handed over to the Investigation Wing after a case was registered against him. Authorities spoke to the media to say that ones who exploit and harass women will face strict consequences and will be given no leniency.

According to the report on gender based violence, the Sustainable Social Development Organisation(SSDO) stated that it is a growing concern in Pakistan. There has been an increase in cases of gender based violence in 2024, the report read. A total of 32,617 cases of gender based violence were reported across the country in 2024. These cases included 5,339 incidents of rape, 24,439 incidents of kidnapping/abduction, 2238 incidents of domestic violence, and 547 cases of honour killing in only one year.
