In drastic turn of events, a 16-year-old girl has committed suicide by setting herself on fire in Kotli due to blackmailand harassment from a neighbour, ARY News reported. The police has stated that the incident occured a week ago, when the girl went into an under-construction house adjacent to her home and self-immolated. She sustained severe burn injuries and was rushed to Rawalpindi in critical condition; however, she succumbed to her wounds.
The District Police Officer (DPO) of Murree elaborated on the case and stated that the Kotli Sattiyan Police Station has registered a case on the complaint of the deceased girl’s brother and a first information report (FIR) was registered. In the FIR, the suspect has been named as Hamid, a neighbour who has been continuosly inflicting mental torture and blackmailing her by calling and messaging from various phone numbers.
The victim’s family has alleged that they tried to sort the issue with the family by informing them, yet the harassment continued, leading to the girl’s unfortunate death. Talking to the media, the DPO Murree informed the media that the investigation is underway and police are conducting raids to apprehend the suspect. He assured that a thorough investigation is being conducted from all angles, and the culprit will be brought to justice as soon as possible.
