Jama Taqseem’s latest episode has captured the clash of ideas, cultural backgrounds, and mindsets, with Laila (played by Mawra Hoccane) bouncing between her parents and in-laws; a common spectacle in our society. While she attempts to balance the two, the differences in opinion and mindset create a rift she cannot bridge. Qais’s family comes to stay with them after an angina attack his father suffers from, and Laila invites her parents after her mother is struggling to settle into her retired life. As Laila tackles a morning rage show, Qais is out of the picture.

Qais’s parents, coming from a conservative background, expect Laila to lose connection with her parents and serve them. However, Laila comes from a family of working women who want their daughter to have a career instead. Laila is failing to please her in-laws, who disapprove of her attending a job interview, despite her mother’s push for her to do so.

The scenario she finds herself in is not new to women in our society, who are pushed to ignore themselves and their personal choices to please those around them. The viewers criticise Qais’s parents’ mindset in this day and age. A viewer said:

People call out the hypocrisy of Qais’s parents, who expect their daughter-in-law to care for them despite their attitude toward her.

Laila’s mother challenges the idea that a girl should serve only her in-laws and forget her parents. A girl may be married, but she is still responsible for fulfilling her duties as a daughter. A viewer stated:

The green forest Qais is also under fire after his disrespectful gestures towards Laila’s family, as well as his expectation that his wife handle the situation at home while he is at work. A X user wrote:
