Two suspects have been arrested in Lahore for posing as officers from the Federal Investigation Agency to extort money from government departments, reported Express News. They had been claiming to belong to the FIA and attaining payments in the form of taxes and fines. The actual anti-corruption circle of the Federal Investigation Agency(FIA) made the arrests, claiming that the duo belongs to an organised gang.
The crackdown on the fraudsters was made after a complaint was filed by one of their victims. Upon the arrest, the FIA team recovered the extorted money from the complainant. Digital evidence against the two suspects was also recovered from their hideout in Allama Iqbal Town, Lahore.
The suspects have been identified as Umer Tariq and Fahad Irfan, and an investigation is underway to make further arrests. The anti-corruption circle is in search of the ring leader and conducting raids.
