Five domestic workers arrested in Karachi for running organised theft gang; police seize thousands in cash and mobile phones

An organised gang of domestic workers have been arrested by the Karachi District East Police for systematic thefts, Express News reported. Working at a prominent industrialist’s residence, five women were arrested after a targeted operation was held by the police on the basis of confidential intelligence. The women were employed as housemaids at the residence for almost 9 years.

The police confirmed that the group had been stealing valuables over an extended period without raising suspicion. They added that the gang was led by Arooj, who stole the key to the family’s locker and got a duplicate made. Using the duplicate key, the gang stole large sums of cash alongwith other valuables.

The police recovered several mobile phones and hundreds of rupees in cash in the operation. Upon investigation, it was revealed that the accused had purchased a house, a car, a motorcycle, and many other expensive household items with the stolen money.

The police have identified the accused as Arooj, Naila Sawera, Alishbah and Sana from Vehari, Okara, Faisalabad, Rahim Yar Khan and Kot Addu. Where the investigations are underway, police officials have stated that more revelations are expected regarding the gang and their crimes. They have also urged people to verify their domestic staff through identity cards and police records before hiring.
