Sindh has reported the first death in 2025 from the Congo fever virus after a 42-year-old man passed away after getting a diagnosis the day before in Karachi.
According to Dawn news, the man was from the District Malir, who had been taken to the Indus Hospital in Korangi where he was tested positive for the virus.
Speaking to the platform, the media coordinator for the Sindh health ministry, Meeran Yousaf, said a group of health experts had visited the deceased’s house after his death but had found the door locked, so they assume the relatives had gone to bury the body.
According to the World Health Organisation, the Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) can cause severe fever outbreaks, and the fatality rate is around 40% According to health experts, the disease can transmit among humans through close contact of blood, organs or other bodily fluids, and either through contact with infected animal bodies.
Some of the crucial signs of the virus include fever, muscle ache, dizziness, neck pain, sore eyes or abdominal pain.
In September 2024, Express News reported two cases of Congo Virus emerged from Quetta and Loralai, and both patients were immediately sent to the isolation ward at the Fatima Jinnah Chest and TB Hospital.
Previously in May, Sindh reported that four people had passed away in Karachi after contracting covid-19. Geo reported that doctors said more patients with symptoms related to the virus were arriving in hospitals, which they described as ‘unusual’ during this time of the year.
