During a press conference held in light of the rampant Coronavirus, Punjab information minister Fayyaz Chohan described children with disabilities as a punishment from God igniting rage and fury among people.
Addressing the problem of retailers and suppliers distributing essentials unfairly in these testing times of the Coronavirus outbreak, the politician said that such people will receive the wrath of God in the forms of disabled and paralyzed children.
Watch him talk about it in the video clip below:
@Fayazchohanpti, keep the reference to #disabled children in a negative manner out of your political statements. It is disgusting and deplorable. Hoarding is a crime but a child born with physical, sensory or cognitive disabilities has nothing to do with it. @Dr_YasminRashid pic.twitter.com/CDHPs6KSGv

People were taken aback by his remarks and labelled them as insensitive and ignorant. Here is what they had to say:

Not surprise by Fayaz ul hasan chohan. Im sure he meant something else but that’s him. He must apologise to all the special children and their parents for his obnoxious twisted belief. Such mindset should be in JUI-F

Shameless comments today by Fayaz Ul Hassan Chohan. Every child is an asset of our country, every child is a blessing! #FayazChohan #Shameless

This isn’t the first time Fayaz Chohan has given arrogant demeaning comments. Previously, he gave anti-Hindu comments by calling them cow urine drinking with people. He was sacked under public pressure but soon reappointed as Information Minister. Chohan hasn’t learnt a thing.

Federal Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari also condemned his remarks via a tweet stating, “Special children are not an “azaab” but are special human beings to be cared for and loved and allowed to develop their own potential. In fact, no child can ever be an “azaab”, and for anyone to make such a cruel, inhumane statement is absolutely unforgivable and condemnable.”

This is not the first time Fayyaz Chohan has landed himself in a controversial situation. We hope ministers and other public personalities become more aware of themselves and their choice of words whlist addressing the masses.
