Photographer shares incredible pictures of middle-aged woman’s second marriage, reminding social media that women should strive to live life on their own terms

Sometimes the internet can be an incredibly wholesome place.

Pakistani wedding photographer Shayan Ather had moved social media users to tears when she shared pictures of a woman in her middle age who was getting married for the second time. The pictures showed how the bride, Aisha, held an emotional first look with her grown sons instead of her husband, and showed all of us that there are no limits in life to finding true love and happiness.

The photographer Shayan gushed about how it was a joy to witness women confidently taking a second chance at finding true love, and defying society’s expectations that a woman should get married and settle down by the time she is 25.

“First look, but with your grown up sons. To women confidently taking a second chance at love and life 🤍

This was one of the most overwhelmingly emotional moments to have captured in my 11 years as a wedding photographer. As a daughter of a single mother (who was powerful and fierce in how she raised us) and what that entails in Pakistani society especially for an older woman… it moved me to tears to see Aisha, our stunning bride, on her wholesome Nikkah.

I recommended to her a few days before the wedding that she should consider doing a first look, but not the conventional one with her husband, but one with both of her sons. The joy on their faces upon seeing their mother, as a stunning bride, ready to start the next chapter of her life is priceless. The whole event was filled with love, acceptance and support which was so beautiful to witness! I wish more women could be like Aisha, and have the unapologetic confidence to pursue their life fearlessly. When a woman is 26, she’s considered to be getting “too old” to marry and “us ki umar nikal gayee hai”. Our society tends to disregard women as they age, and they are simply… not seen.

I pray we find more Aisha’s in our society. Who refuse to stop living their life on their own terms, who take chances, and who do it with such grace. ”

The photographer’s post went viral quickly, with several social media users stepping in to congratulate the beautiful bride and also praying that they also find the same love and support she has.

Another user commented: “This is so beautiful ❤️ love that her family supported her right to move on and have a life partner. I wish more people are receptive to this mindset.”

We’re so incredibly over-joyed that society has now begun moving on from the stereotype that middle-aged women cannot get married for the second time after being divorced or widowed. Everyone deserves true love and happiness and we’re so glad that brides like Aisha are proving that.

Several celebrities have also opened up about finding true love and happiness in their late age like Manzar Sehbai and Samina Ahmed.
