A gruesome case of honour killing has emerged from Jhelum, where a brother killed his 31-year-old sister. According to Dawn, the woman, who had two children, previously divorced her first husband and had now filed a petition in court to end her second marriage.
The police said the suspect was found while trying to flee to Saudi Arabia on Saturday morning, after they received a call from the father Mohammad Arif, who said an unidentified person had shot his daughter and fled the scene.
Speaking to the media outlet, the District Police Officer Tariq Aziz Sindhu said the deceased’s three brothers were working in Saudi Arabia, and the murderer had flown back to Pakistan five days ago after finding out that his sister was planning to leave her second husband and then flee the country. The DPO added the suspect committed the crime, and then was arrested at the Islamabad airport where he was found with a return ticket back to Saudi Arabia.
The DPO said the police alerted officials at the Federal Investigation Agency at all nearby airports, and which is how they were able to successfully capture the suspect within 8 hours.
The police have also held the father in their custody for allegedly persuading the son to kill his sister.
