The latest episode of Biryani has hit us one more time! The profound episode has successfully touched a taboo topic of forced marriages, in a sensible way. The kitchen scene in episode 23, Gul Mehar can be seen talking about the helpless state a woman can be in when stuck in an unwanted marriage. Regardless of her coming from a rich and influential background, she could not say no to marrying Meeran. Rather, it was her background that held her back and led her to accept Meeran as a husband on paper.

Gul Mehar a victim of forced marriage, is delivering hard hitting facts to Nissa in an attempt to save her from the same loop. While Nissa has chosen to be with Rashid Bhai in a rebound scenario, Gul Mehar was never given a choice. Gul had revealed her relationship dynamics in front of Nissa’s family to give space to the thought of a Meeran-Nissa reunion. She told Nissa that she is stuck with Meeran because she had been under the weight of carrying out the responsibilities of a woman coming from an influential family and being considered a matriach in a fuedal set up.

She elaborated that she was bound to hold onto a fake marriage with Meeran to protect herself, just like Nissa held Rashid Bhai to protect herself from heartbreak. She confronted Nissa over the fact that coming from an open minded and supportive family, she still found it hard to accept the heartbreak and reveal the truth about her relationship with Meeran to her family. Gul is trying to plant a seed in her mind that she is not bound to be with Rashid Bhai in a fit of anger. While the thought seeems far fetched, Gul questions Nissa if there is a possibility of her reuniting with Meeran.

Previously as well, when Nissa found out about their marriage, Gul had been clarifying that the marriage is simply a ruse in episode 14. Meeran and Gul had been under their family’s pressure and now struggle to accept each other as Gul has motherly insticts towards Meeran. She was unable to switch off the maternal sentiments to become his wife because she had been raising Meeran and Haroon(Gul’s younger brother) together as her brothers.

Gul seems to be on a plan in light of the recent episodes, however, audiences don’t seem to like her unsolicited opinions. A netizen wrote;

They are also speculating a love interest in Gul’s life which didn’t find its way through;

However Nissa’s portrayal is not been appreciated where she is dependant on Gul to bounce back in life. A X user wrote:
