Shuja Asad plays Barlas Khan in the critically acclaimed drama “ Khaie” which has redefined the entertainment landscape of Pakistan.

In a one-on-one with the man of the moment, we dig deep into his process of him becoming ‘Barlas Khan’.

How did you prepare yourself for a drama with strong cultural nuances like ‘Khaie’ as well as a fleshed-out character like Barlas Khan? What did the process look like?

Honestly, it was hours and hours of practicing in front of the mirror. What really helped me get in character was the wardrobe – clothes, accessories and the fan-favorite surma. Ofcourse trusting my director (Syed Wajahat Hussain)‘s vision for Barlas was key.

What aspects of your character did you find challenging to portray?

The toughest aspect had to be the transition from lover to killer.

How do you feel about the surge of new followers and fans after Khaie’s incredible success?

I feel incredibly overwhelmed. It has been surreal and I am so grateful for all of it.

What do you hope audiences take away from watching this drama?

Just wanted them to be entertained and hope they are able to see some content on their television screens that is different and unique.

What future roles or projects are you excited about, please elaborate on how you choose and finalize a project?

For finalising projects, I look at the script, the character and ofcourse if I am able to connect with the director.
