Ruling the 7pm slot on television screens this month is ARY Digital’s ‘Baby Baji’, the drama based on family dynamics explores the various relationships in a joint family and how they are interlinked to each other. The storyline is highly relatable to the average Pakistani household who still continue to live in a joint family setup. Baby Baji features veteran actress Samina Ahmed as Baby Baji herself and Saud Qasmi, Javeria Saud, Hassan Ahmed, Sunita Marshal, Tuba Anwar, Junaid Jamshed Niazi, and Aina Asif. The drama is produced under the banner of iDreams Entertainment, and is written by Mansoor Ahmed Khan and directed by Tehseen Khan.

The different characters in Baby Baji have us hooked to the show, Samina Ahmed’s Baby Baji is the head of the household alongside her husband and the story revolves around their family of four sons out of which two are already married while the third son Wasif is all set to be married off soon.

While there is no major anatagonist in the drama and the story touches on normal everyday issues and conflicts that arise in a joint family household, Azra Bhabhi played by the feisty Javeria Saud is one of the cutest villains we’ve ever seen on television. You can never get enough of her funny tantrums and antics and she is truly the life of the show! Hassan Ahmed playing Baby Baji’s second son Naseer portrays quite the graycharacter and is the least likeable in the show. Not only is he rude and violent towards his on-screen wife Asma played by the dusky queen Sunita Marshall, but we’ve never seen Hassan Ahmed smiling in any episode, truly giving off the grim reaper vibe.

Let’s take a look at what’s been happening on Baby Baji:

Waleed’s Accident Dampens Wasif’s Engagement Festivities

Baby Baji’s quest for her third daughter in law has come to an end as she finds Wasif’s bride to be, after  afew hiccups along the way, Baby Baji has finally agreed on the girl and preparations are underway for a grand function. Just when the families decide to meet officially, Baby Baji’s youngest son Waleed meets an unfortunate road accident. He continues to harbour a secret for his sister in law Asma (Sunita Marshall) who had requested to come quickly and rescue her from the abortion clinic she had been forced to consult by her husband Naseer (Hassan Ahmed).

Asma Finally Takes a Stand for Herself!

Asma has been shown as the damsel in distress, one that is a door mat for her husband who walks all over her every single day. He is not only emotionally, verbally and physically violent towards her but their son does not escape his wrath either. He blames Baby Baji for his forceful marriage to Asmaand has therefore ruined her life in the many years they have been married. It was good to see Asma finally standing up for herself and refusing to get the abortion. We hope she continues to fight for her unborn child and for herself in the face of her ruthless husband.

Azra Continues her Tantrums

The comic banter between Azra (Javeria Saud) and Jamal (Saud Qasmi) is on point and often leaves us in fits of laughter. Azra leaves us confused as she is sometimes the caring daughter in law as she worries for Waleed while the next minute she is busy watching her TV shows while the entire household is worried sick for his safe return. Azra may not always have the right approach towards things but she surely is one to watch out for and we definitely believe her heart is mostly at the right place.

The next episode shows Azra listening in at Asma and Waleed, will she find out the truth behind Waleed’s crash? We do hope she lets the family members know of Naseer’s intentions towards his unborn child and he is taught a lesson by his father and brothers. Continue watching Baby Baji to find out how the story progresses further.
