As Aap Ki Izzat continues to trend on social media, Saania Saeed opens up about her character, Naseeba, in Something Haute. She has said these character and family dynamics are a constant on Pakistani television, as they mirror society. She said that mothers like Naseeba are everywhere in our society, whose lives revolve around controlling their sons and their relationship with their wives. Reflecting her character as Tabish’s (Ahsan Khan) mother, she adds that she has always controlled his life and enabled his crimes by not only supporting his misogynistic ideas but also turning down Beena (Urwa Hocane) every time she complained about her husband’s behaviour.
Explaining her point of view, she stated that we find such a mother in modern societies as well; however, in Pakistani society, women tend to base their whole lives on controlling relationships. Their lives revolve around mother-in-law and daughter-in-law dynamics, along with a husband-and-wife relationship that must be under the mother-in-law’s surveillance. She added that women in our society do not tend to understand that these relationships are not the whole of life but a part of it.
Saania added that these characters and stories keep appearing in our drama serials because society does not deal with these issues; relationship dynamics in our society are stagnant and rotten. She said that mothers of her age should have left the inherited misogyny behind, yet they are still dragging the same mindset, pushing the same issues to the future. She said that in order to evolve as a society, it is essential to resolve the obsession with the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationship.
