Indian director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s anticipated drama series ‘Heeramandi’ released on Netflix platforms across the world yesterday. The eight episode series revolves around the lives of six courtesans living in Heeramandi in pre-Partition Lahore. The series seemed to gather praises for the cinematography, but Pakistani Twitter users couldn’t stop at roasting how little the show had researched on the historical inaccuracies, and especially the way the Urdu dialogue was botched.
Many had to point out how historically inaccurate it was to depict Muslim revolutionaries wave the Indian flag during the revolution, when they were advocating for a separate state.

Bhansali saab atleast open a book before writing on a historical monument based in Lahore??? Or maybe even speak with a 5th grader who would have better awareness of Lahore’s history than you did.

And also maybe look for actresses who could resemble the era the series is based in? One influencer and writer gets it absolutely right.
When there was a list of talented actors right there who would have been the perfect fit for a Netflix series, why did you have to settle for nepo babies Sanjay sahab?
Indian cinema is cringe af in case of representing Muslims & their culture as a whole. They can’t even do justice with Urdu language. #Heeramandi is a prime example of this cringe-worthy portrayal. Perhaps casting Pakistani actors like Mahira, Fawad, Saba Qamar, or sourcing
