In a recent development, actor Ahmad Ali Butt, on his podcast, took a jab at Indian poet and screenwriter Javed Akhtar, who has been expressing anti-Pakistan sentiment in recent statements. Talking about Javed Akhtar, Ahmad said that Pakistan and its people have showered immense respect towards the poet and screenwriter, yet he does not deserve it.

Ahmed further added that although he remains composed when discussing controversial topics, he cannot help but say that Javed is nothing but a blemish on the name of art. The conversation came up when he sat down with podcaster Adnan Faisal on the show Excuse Me with Ahmad Ali Butt during a 2025 roundup.

Ahmad’s response to a derogatory remark Javed made towards Pakistan after the war between Pakistan and India in May of 2025. In his statement, Javed stated that if he were left with a choice between Pakistan and hell, he would rather choose hell.

Pakistan’s artist fraternity has shown respect and honour for the poet, despite his anti-Pakistan remarks during his 2023 visit to the country for the Faiz Festival, where he paid his respects to the Urdu poet Faiz Ahmad Faiz. In his frivolous statement, he put the onus of the 2008 Mumbai attacks on Pakistan for harbouring the terrorists behind it. He also added that Pakistanis must not take offense to his remark.
