Cricket legend and leg-spin wizard Abul Qadir passed away

Former cricketer, Abul Qadir passed away on Friday in Lahore at the age of 63 due to cardiac arrest. He breathed his last when he was on his way to the hospital and this news came as a sudden shock to the nation.

Known as the dancing bowler due to his peculiar bowling style, he made his One-Day International debut in 1983 World Cup, and took 132 wickets in 104 games and former captain and now Prime Minister Imran Khan used his skills as an attacking weapon in 1983’s World Cup held in England. He took 236 wickets in Test matches in his international career, with a best of 9-65 against England in 1987. He later served as chief selector for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as well as a match commentator.

Abul Qadir has four sons, Rehman, Imran, Suleman and Usman, all played first-class cricket and his daughter, Noor is married to cricketer, Umar Akmal.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Prime Minister Imran Khan, DB ISPR Maj. Gen. Asif Ghafoor and cricketers from all across the country offered their deepest condolences to Abul Qadir’s family and friends.
