
In a detailed interview with Urdu News, Abdul Razzaq Tarakai has opened up about what went down when Dr Mahnoor was attacked with acid in Quetta’s Civil Hospital on June 5, 2026. Abdul Razza saved her life as he timely responded to the attack and laid his jacket on her, resulting in him gaining burns on his arms and legs.
Talking about the attack, Abdul Razzaq stated that he was present there by chance for a checkup, was scrolling his phone and turned back after hearing the doctor’s cries. He added that she was in pain, and the only thing that came to his mind to save her was to cover her. He further added that in Quetta, becoming a doctor is an achievement for a woman; hence, the least he could do was to protect one. He added that the culture honours women, and it was his obligation to help Dr Mahnoor. He said that if he had to lose his life to save hers, he would not have regretted it.

Abdul Razzaq is an intermediate student and has privately completed his diploma as a lab technician; he is a student and works part-time at the Civil Hospital, Quetta. He has been discharged from the hospital and is recovering from the burns in his house. He is scheduled for surgery tomorrow as the burns on his arms are intense. Abdul Razzaq has thanked the government for honouring him with a national award and has requested that they help him complete his education and provide a permanent job in the future.

Dr Mahnoor was attacked with acid while on duty after rejecting advances from the lift operator in the same hospital. The attacker was shot dead during a police encounter, and Dr Mahnoor has been moved to Karachi’s Agha Khan University Hospital (AKUH) for specialised treatment. She has sustained burns on 13% of her body, affecting her face, abdomen, thighs and right hand. Her eyes are also affected, however, her eyesight is fully intact; the doctors have stated that she is in stable condition.
