The Basant festival brought together Pakistan’s showbiz industry when Mohsin Naveed Rajha and Waqar Butt hosted a colourful party. The top of the industry were spotted flying kites, enjoying food and music. The colours of the coming spring season were worn by the celebrities as they savoured every moment of the festive night.
Waqar Butt spoke to Niche about his experience celebrating Basant after 25 years of the ban. He said:
Hum America se acha New Year nhi mana sakte, magar hum se achi Basant koi nhi mana sakta! It was beautiful to see everyone gather for the festival and people regardless of age and gender celebrated it.
He added:
We Lahoris have a knack for celebrations, we make the best out of everything and this is what I enjoyed the most. We need more festivals like this.
He said that festivals like these have also created opportunities to earn. He said:
This festival is for the masses, where we celebrate, it has created room for vendors to earn as well and make the most out of the festival.
Talking about these celebrations displays a positive image of Pakistan abroad, he said:
I am sure that next year tourism in Pakistan will boom at the time of Basant. My friends and aqcuitances were curious about it and asked me about this festival.
He added that more festivals should be held nationwide to promote social harmony. He said:
We should also host Holi and Lohri and everything that unites our country, eveyrthing Punjabi, everything Pakistani! It’s a great time to be a Pakistani, a Lahori!
He also said:
Today I feel more productive after celebrating Basant with friends and family, we need more events because we all need a little break and a little boost of energy.
When questioned about what made the celebration a success, he said:
Big thumbs up to the Lahoris for following every rule. People made sure that Basant was safe for everyone; no chemical dor, no firing, no unauthorized celebrations.
Many celebrities were spotted at the grand event; Saba Qamar was spotted with a kite, having a blast:
Maya Ali and Nameer Khan were also spotted enjoying the festive event.
Celebrity couple Aima Baig and Zain Ahmad were also spotted at the event.
The event was cherished by singers Bilal Saeed and Bohemia as well.
