In a fiery Instagram statement, Brooklyn Peltz Beckham, the son of former footballer David Beckham, announced he has cut ties with his family over unresolved differences. Stating that he is breaking his silence after constant attacks by his parents, David and Victoria Beckham, he said he chooses his peace and privacy over the anxiety this feud brings. He posted:
In his statement, he claimed that the Beckham image is a facade they have built at the expense of many innocent people. Brooklyn’s marriage to American actress Nicola Peltz has been the bone of contention between the Beckhams. He said the feud began with their wedding, when his mother refused to make Nicola’s wedding dress at the last minute and also called him evil for placing his nanny on the table with them. He posted:
Brooklyn stated that he and his wife have been targets of attack through social media, through the parents’ media team and his brothers were also forced to attack him online. The matters becoming public have pushed him to reveal his side of the story and stated that he does not plan to reconcile with his family. He posted:
Brooklyn added that he had made attempts to reconcile in the past, but they were put down by being met with unimaginable demands. When he and Nicola travelled to London to celebrate his father’s birthday, he was asked to throw a big party with a hundred guests and media coverage, only if Nicola was not invited. Later, when his family visited Los Angeles, they did not meet him there either. He posted:
His claims stated that his family is highly concerned with their public image, that he tried to maintain it to the best of his ability, and that he had been present with his wife at press events to present himself as a “perfect family”. He added that the family’s love was based on the number of social media posts a member made and how often they showed up for a photo op. He posted:
By the end of his statement, he denied all allegations that he is being controlled by his wife; however, he has lived in anxiety due to the control he faced throughout his childhood. He said now he has overcome the anxiety after distancing himself from his family. Being grateful for the life he has now, he put an end to past ties and the rumours and scandals attached to them. He said he wants to live a life free of media images and manipulation, and hopes for privacy and happiness for himself and his family.
