A 17-year-old domestic worker was subjected to sexual assault in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Maymar area, Express News reported. The police have confirmed that the young domestic worker was abducted late last night and later raped.
Police have arrested the primary suspect, identified as Shahi Sardar, who allegedly played a central role in the assault. After investigation, it was revealed that the accused had previously served as president of the residential apartment union where the victim worked, raising serious concerns about abuse of power and influence within the premises.
Officials further revealed that another unidentified accomplice managed to escape. Police teams are continuing raids in various areas to track down and arrest the second suspect involved in the crime.
A delay was reported in filing the first information report (FIR), after which the Inspector General (IG) Sindh took strict notice. He suspended the Station House Officer (SHO) of Gulshan-e-Maymar, Sub-Inspector Muhammad Saqib, over negligence and ordered his demotion. The delay in filing the FIR raised questions about procedural lapses and the timely provision of justice to the victim.
The IG Sindh has directed the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) West to conduct a thorough inquiry into the reasons for the delay and ensure that those responsible for hindering the process of justice are held accountable.
