Saba Qamar is back with a bang as she lights up the screens as the mysterious Jahan Ara in Muamma, a psychological thriller. Airing its first 2 episodes this week, Muamma revolved around Jahan Ara and her tenants, each having their own tale to tell.

Each episode reveals another layer to the story of Jahan Ara, while she consistently keeps the intrigue to herself. A product of her experiences, Jahan Ara is haunted by glimpses of her past as she sails as an independent business owner, finding joy in shaping her tenants’ lives.

The first case in Jahan Ara’s plot is a young couple, Zeeshan (Nabeel Zuberi) and Zara (Mahnoor Malik), who are struggling in their marriage because the husband is unhappy with his wife’s household skills, even though he married her by his own choice. The wife is pregnant and is making every effort to satisfy him.

Zeeshan is now in awe of the perfect Jahan Ara, who carries herself with perfect poise, manages a household, runs her baking business, and cooks the best meals. On top of that, she treats Zeeshan kindly, lends him money, does not mind rent delays, and sends home-cooked meals when his wife is away.

The entangled story of rejection and disloyalty leads to a split between the young couple, with Jahan Ara keeping an eye on each move through a mirror in the tenant’s house. She believes that Zeeshan has met his fate, yet Zara, after some time, finds the heart to start anew with Zeeshan in a different house.

This sends Jahan Ara into a fury, and she issues a notice to Zeeshan to evacuate the house by nightfall and pay off all the debt he has been incurring over the past 2 years. Building back the suspense, Jahan Ara’s motive seems unclear as she finds it impossible to see the couple back together. Have her past experiences made her a man-hating person who is avenging whatever bad things have happened to her? Or is she trying to expose every disloyal man she comes across? Or is she mentally unstable and pushing things that aren’t even there?

Saba Qamar’s consistent intrigue, expressions, and fiery performance have made Muamma a new favourite.
