An incident from the Bahawalpur district has brought shocks to the country, where a mother has killed 16 year old daughter for objecting to her smoking habit, Dawn reported. Coming from Basti Sokar, the mother strangled her teenage daughter to death over an argument about the mother’s smoking habit. The case was filed at the City Yazman Police Station and registered there on Sunday.

The accused is identified as Nabila, and her teenage daughter is Aisha, 16. Nabila is a habitual smoker, and her daughter disliked this habit of hers, leading to constant arguments. According to Yazman Police, the same disagreement sparked a heated debate on Saturday night, which led to the eventual murder.

Upon investigation, the police discovered that during the altercation, the victim, Aisha, tried to physically stop her mother from smoking, which allegedly enraged her. In a fit of anger, Nabila overpowered her daughter and strangled her, resulting in her on-the-spot death. The incident came to light when the residents reported an alleged murder to the police on Sunday.

Right after a report was filed, police reached the scene and cordoned it off; forensic and crime-scene units were called to collect evidence. Physical samples were collected to help establish the exact sequence of events. The woman was taken into custody, and a case was registered against her.

Later, the body of the deceased girl was moved to the Yazman Tehsil Headquarters(THQ) Hospital, where a postmortem examination was conducted to determine the cause of death. The police spoke to the media, stating that further investigation is underway, while statements from family members and neighbours are being recorded.
