Jama Taqseem has become a drama serial that delivers a deep lesson with every new episode. The latest episode ticks the boxes for being thought-provoking as Shafaq (Hania Ahmad) confronts her brother, Zeeshan (Elahi Bux Khan), about his character and standing in life.
Where the grown-ups are brewing up marriages between the cousins to save their name and honour within the family, Shafaq and Faisal turn down any such ideas. The two are determined to shut down any marriage expectations from the families in order to protect the family’s name and honour. The mothers have been brewing a scheme to marry Sidra (Nazeeha Zainab) to her harasser, Zeeshan. At the same time, Shafaq and Faisal are tied together to protect her from future embarrassment because of her brother’s deeds.

Zeeshan walks up to his sister in hopes of an apology, yet he is met with a long-overdue reality check. Shafaq tells him of the crimes he has committed and that she would have cut all ties with him after that. She tells him that his actions have put them all in a difficult situation, as their mother only wants to ease things for Zeeshan and put her aside. She also slams him with the reality that he can not protect her or put her word forward to their parents because it would hold no significance. All because he has lost respect, and his words will hold no importance to anyone, not even to her.

Zeeshan, who hoped for support, was told that his place in his sister’s life and heart is nothing but a harasser. Though she cannot deny that he is her brother, she would not wish to maintain any relationship with him. As much as he regrets it and wants to make amends, she tells him that nothing would change what he has done to Sidra. His desire to marry her after tarnishing her “honour” would not change anything; he could not redeem himself. He cannot redeem himself by offering himself for marriage, nor would Sidra accept such a proposal.

The drama shuts down the common result of most in-family harassment cases in our society, where the victim is married off to the perpetrator in order to keep things within the family. It shows how such practices not only affect the victims but also the ones around them. Shafaq can be seen in tears after confronting Zeeshan, questioning why she is bound to make a sacrifice for something she has not done. Why is she supposed to marry her cousin, Faisal, because her brother harassed Sidra? Their mother’s fear of not finding suitable matches for her children has put Shafaq in a compromising position.
