
Tragedy struck Khanewal when a father-in-law threw acid on his daughter-in-law because of a domestic dispute, Express News reported. The police report has been filed for the crime, as the Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has taken notice of it. She has directed Member Provincial Assembly(MPA) Hina Parvez Butt to look into the matter.
The MPA has now ordered a detailed report on the incident from the District Police Officer (DPO) Khanewal, while the police have arrested the suspect in a prompt action. The accused has confessed to the crime in the initial investigation by the police.
Talking about the incident, Hina Parvez Butt stated that acid attacks are a heinous crime that is punishable under the Acid Control Bill, 2025, with 14years of imprisonment and a fine of up to Rs. 500,00. She said that the perpetrator will not be given any leniency for his barbaric crime.
She also stated that the Punjab Women Protection Authority will take up the case and provide the victim with legal, medical, and psychological assistance. She also called upon the police to ensure a transparent and swift investigation. She demanded that the charge sheet (challan submission) be provided with priority. She restated that the government has a zero-tolerance policy for crimes against women, and quick measures will be taken in this case.
It has been reported that about 200 acid attacks are reported in Pakistan, with women accounting the 60 per cent.
