Trigger warning: discussion of eating disorder, mental health
Komal Meer was a guest on the ‘Something Haute’ show where she addressed the comments about the noticeable changes in her body in drama projects. The actress revealed that her appearance had changed significantly due to eating more after she was body-shamed for being too skinny.
The ‘Goonj’ actress said she had an eating disorder growing up, and became more aware about it when she began working in showbiz and several people, including her co-actors would call her names. ‘People would call me ‘danda’, ‘sukhi’ or sometimes say I look like a hanger with clothes on it. I always took it in a lighter way and laugh about it. But then I began realising that I wanted to change this.”
Komal said when she was offered a film where she was suggested to gain weight so she looks more prominent on screen, so she began eating a lot in order to look a certain way. “I was eating two parathas in the morning with desi ghee. In the afternoon I had two rotis.”
Komal further went on to add that as she began eating more, her body began changing a lot as her face look bloated. “I was very happy about it because my skin was glowing, my dark circles were gone and I was looking nice in pictures.”
But reading the controversial comments had the ‘Ae Dil’ actress shocked because trolls began suspecting that she had undergone surgery to change her appearance. “Because for the first time in my life I felt like everything was working out because I’m eating more, my skin is glowing, I begun realising that this is how foodies feel they’re happy all the time.”
