Tan Man Neel O Neel
We’re so shocked that no one is giving this drama a lot of attention, and its already about to end. The limited series explores a lot of sensitive topics such as mob politics, dancing culture and the social stigma and harassment both male and female dancers face on a daily basis, especially a very heartbreaking journey of a male dancer trying to take his sexual abuser to court. But the central love story of this drama is between Rabbi and Sonu, which is a testament on how genuine love and fondness helps you even when no one is on your side. Rabbi and Sonu are two outcasts when the drama begins since he is a dancer, and she is an aspiring content creator whose love for dancing and filming raising her village’s eyebrows. As the two continue to bond over their love for music and to help Sonu’s dance group grow, we get wholesome glimpses of how they inspire each other to achieve their dreams.
FairyTale
We will keep championing this drama because of the way it nailed the hook on what women want in rom-coms so badly. They don’t need a quirky heroine who is cool because she aspires to drop out of college (cough cough Meem Say Mohabbat) and her love interest is a 36 year old dad. They need an age-appropriate romance where the woman has ambitions, and the man respects her dreams and helps her achieve them.
Tum Se Kehna Tha
We know Pakistanis love their classical dramas but no one seems to have given this one a lot of hoot, because it has an endearing heroine whose attempts at finding love and marriage lead her in a very bizarre situation. Directed by Sahira Kazmi and written by Syed Mohammad Ahmed, the drama stars Marina Khan as Hira, a clumsy woman working at a dead-end job, and the only highlight of her day is watching her crush when he passes by her office everyday. When he is injured in a car incident and Hira quickly rushes him to the hospital, she is mistaken to be his fiance which leads to a chain of hilarious events.
Zard Patton Ka Band
Sajal Aly’s ‘Kuch Ankahi’ gets a lot praise but we need this one to be off your watch list today because how it tackled the sensitive issue of family planning so well. Meenu is a girl from a village who aspires to become a doctor, at the behest of her three brothers who try to stop her dreams at every length. Hamza Sohail plays Doctor Nofil who is exiled to the village as punishment for speaking up against malpractice at his hospital. How Nofil falls in love with Meenu and helps her reach for her light and fulfill her dream to become a doctor despite the opposition she faces, makes it the kind of drama that will make you want to go back and watch it over and over again.
