On 10th June, a horrific incident went viral on social media where a LUMS student Abdul Hadi was seen colliding with a car and dying on the street, while the culprit escaped. The suspect was found to be a minor, Mujtaba Waqas, who has not yet been arrested by authorities.
Friends of Abdul Hadi took to social media to rally for justice. A friend wrote a post on their X account, and wrote that the deceased’s brother is currently fighting for his life in the ICU.
“While Mujtaba’s family continues to try and protect him by either pinning the accident on the driver or by penalising Abdul Hadi, we must not forget that this was murder, and if we let this go it could be us next. Lawlessness knows no bounds,” said the post.
My very dear friend Abdul Hadi Khan was murdered by an overspeeding underage driver, Mujtaba Waqas, who fled from the scene. @MaryamNSharif @ccpolahore please take notice and have the culprits arrested. #justiceforabdulhadi pic.twitter.com/1JFIoqQ1yX

Twitter users bemoaned the death of another student at the hands of careless drivers.
“I’m so sick and tired of the underage driving being thoughtlessly allowed and encouraged in the defence area, especially the phase 7 one. How many deaths does it need for parents and authorities to put an end to it? Another precious life lost because of a spoilt brat’s actions.”

“I don’t understand how encouraged not only underaged driving is in Pakistan- but RECKLESS driving is too. A few months ago we had the incident in phase 8 and now this, please stop encouraging the “shughal” of being an underage driver or speeding, you’re endangering other people.”
