The Taliban government in Afghanistan has just announced that they will impose a nation wide policy to make face veiling mandatory for all young girls and women when they are outside, and failing to do so would impose strict fines upon the men in the family. The Taliban have faced controversy in the past for their misogynist policies like refusing to allow women and children to attend school or university, and even were bared from travelling without a male companion.

Activist Malala Yousafzai has been extremely critical of the Taliban government and has called on world leaders, including the former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan to condemn their rule and save the Afghani population from their tyranny. In regards to the latest ruling, she uploaded a statement on Twitter where she criticized the Taliban for “erasing women and young girls from all aspects of public life in Afghanistan”. She also urged leaders from around the world to condemn the Taliban for going back on their promises to protect women in the country, and also called them to take collective action against the Taliban for what they have done to Afghani women and girls.
