Trans woman Wafa shot dead in Swabi on Tuesday amidst debates around Transgender Protection Law.
According to police, attackers started firing on Wafa and her friends who were on their way to Peshawar in a car. When the car was about one kilometer from the interchange it came under firing of attackers. The incident took place in Swabi near Anbar Interchange. Wafa was killed on the spot while others remained unhurt, after which the suspect fled the scene.

Reason behind the killing has not been determined. Meanwhile body of Wafa has been shifted to Bacha Khan Medical Complex for medico-legal formalities
An investigation into the incident is underway, the police added.
CII says transgender law ‘not in line with Shariah’
The incident occurred hours after the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) publicly announced its objections over the transgender law prevalent in Pakistan. The CII declared that the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act is “not in line with the Shariah”, as “several provisions of the act are inconsistent with Islamic principles.

The decision came after Senator Mushtaq Ahmed of the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) raised objections to the law, followed by a commotion on social media against the said legislation. The CII, warned that the act may lead to “new social problems” and asked the government to form a committee to review the law related to the transgender community.
