Indian star batsman Virat Kohli and Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma posted a statement on social media requesting privacy after pictures of daughter Vamika went viral on social media on Sunday.

The pictures were clicked at Newlands Stadium in Cape Town, where the mother and daughter were cheering for team India during a cricket match.

The couple expressed their lack of knowledge regarding the fact that the pictures were being clicked, revealing that it had been done without their consent. “Hi guys! We realise that our daughter’s images were captured at the stadium yesterday and widely shared thereafter,” Kohli and Anuska wrote in their separate Instagram stories.

“We want to inform everyone that we were caught off guard and didn’t know that the camera was on us,” both Anushka and Virat wrote. They reemphasized their stance on maintaining privacy for their child adding that they would ‘appreciate’ if Vamika’s images are not clicked or published for reasons “explained earlier”.

Earlier in interviews, the couple had requested the media to refrain from clicking and posting pictures of their child as they would like for her to have a normal childhood. “We seek privacy for our child and would like to do our best to give her a chance to live her life freely away from media and social media. As she is older we cannot restrict her movement and hence your support is needed so kindly practice restraint in the matter. A special thank you to fans clubs and people of the internet for going out of your way to not post images” Anushka had told the media.
