Trigger warning: domestic violence, mention of rape
Twitter was shocked today to find out that the Domestic Violence Bill which protected women and children from domestic abuse in their homes, was being removed. Commentator and columnist Ansar Abbasi shared the letter on Twitter where he praised the decision to repeal the Domestic Violence Bill, which he said was “highly controversial” and “un-Islamic”. Here are some of the reactions to the announcement:
Ansar Abbasi is rooting for wife bashing recommendation from Council of Islamic ideology. The mullah’s council may yet approve wife bashing with some provisos which people like Ansar Abbasi may interpret in a way that they may justify the heinous act of wife bashing. https://t.co/sNf1Othmcm

how do the men of our country find a bill against domestic violence ‘controversial’ and in need of Islamic inference but are totally okay with mullahs raping kids or women literally dying from abuse??? https://t.co/xCA3PajUnm

Its highly controversial because it’ll hold men accountable for their actions? How is it even unIslamic? It’s literally the most Islamic thing there is. What a bunch of hypocrites. https://t.co/ikh9IGT1R6

Why is a domestic violence bill controversial. Surely domestic violence should be a crime. I don’t get why they need to refer it past a religious body ? What kind of precedent is this https://t.co/JwjcY63MNe

Highly controversial because you won’t be able to domesticate and abuse your wives then. https://t.co/jYgOhNwjwm

12 men in the CII are going to review the Domestic Violence Bill. Men who have never known fear the way women do, men who are usually perpetrators and men who will never empathise with what a woman has to go through. https://t.co/yPIopIN3gy
