17 year old girl in Karachi commits suicide after not being able to marry lover

Horrifying news emerged from Karachi that a 17 year old girl, Rahat Dokhtar Riaz,  committed suicide after she was denied permission from her parents to marry her lover.

According to Express News the body was discovered in Bidal Colony slum, North Karachi, and was immediately taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital upon discovery.

According to the Sir Syed Police Station SPO Farrukh Hashmi, the elder sister of the deceased revealed that Rahat was in love with a boy and wanted to marry him, but the parents refused to give her permission. The father had broken off the relationship and had told the deceased he had arranged her marriage to someone else.

On Tuesday morning, the father and brother had gone for work, while the mother and elder sister were home when they had discovered Rahat’s suicide in her room. Both mother and sister had taken the body down from the rope and shifted it to the hospital immediately.

Rise of violent deaths in Karachi

This is among the recent cases of crime rates in Karachi. In June, 11 bodies were found dead after the city’s temperature rose during the on-going heatwave. According to the Edhi hospital officials, more bodies had started to arrive which was causing space related issues, due to which bodies had to be buried without being claimed by family owners.

Horrifying crime in Islamabad

Meanwhile in Islamabad, DAWN News reported that a police officer in Islamabad was arrested after he raped two beggar children. According to news reports, the cop had illegally detained both children at the Shams Colony Police Station, during which time the children were beaten badly. They were later dropped off by the cop at the Edhi Centre.

DIG Syed Ali Raza registered a case against the cop and told DAWN that investigations had already begun.
